Yoda Offspring

We are still on Panglao somehow not willing to move on.
Prices will soar here approaching eastern school vacation so we now fixed departure to 23.03 to Cebu.
We do not know if we prolong our visa (265$!!) or take a somewhat expensive flight at the 29.03

18.03 we went Snorkeling on Balicasag Island and had a coconut drink on Virgin Island.
Astrid and I even saw a turtle but the kids got out of the water quite soon as there were small jellyfish. We felt them too but it was Ok, for the kids it was too much.
The trip was pleasant. The only downside was that in the end the trip cost us double than just the boat with all the renting, entrance fee to the island, entrance fee to the snorkel area etc.

20.03 We rented a car with driver and made the Bohol “must see” tour

Yoda. This is not the best pic we have from the Tarsier but the one where the resemblance is obvious.
20130320_105422_Tarsier_Yoda
When one enters the Tarsier forest a strange force can be felt. There is a hidden track on the “The Empire Strikes Back” DVD explaining that before retiring to Dagobah Yoda visited earth for a brief albeit fruitful love affair. The offspring of this encounter can still be visited on Bohol.

Man made Forest. Someone was so proud that a forest also can be planted that this is now a tourist attraction. It is actually a neat Mahogany forest.

Chocolate Hills.
The most famous of Bohol attractions.

(Check back in about 2 Month. Then the hills will be brown, resembling chocolate kisses, hence the name)

Loboc Lunch River cruise.
Very touristy. They have about 20 of these things where about 60 persons can eat from a buffet. At night the entire stretch of the river is illuminated.

Baclayon Church and Museum
Very nice. Completely different from Einsiedeln. The entire church is green from moss (?) on the inside.

Blood Compact Commemorative Shrine
Just a bronze monument.

Bohol, Panglao

We are at a relatively small island at the south tip of Bohol, called Panglao.
Close to Alona Beach our Resort Olivia (http://www.oliviaresort.com/) is rather on the posh side.
We are staying here for a couple of days to relax from travelling.
Relaxing does only mean no travelling, there is still a lot of work to do.
– sorting pictures (back to Australia)
– planning the rest of the stay in the Philippines
– planning the Cambodia, Vietnam, Lao part
– diary
– Tons of E-Mails
– Ada going to school (some questions left)
Philippines is still an open issue. We have to leave latest 30.03. We could prolong by getting a visa. (Strangely the visa is expensive, overstaying penalty would be cheaper).
However, Eastern Sunday is 31.03.2013 an School vacation is after 24.03. An as in all good catholic countries the week before Eastern is very busy. Meaning: no accommodation at the beach after 24.03, and all flights are expensive around Eastern.
But enough complaining.
We can walk here in about 15 minutes:

To go back we take a tricycle for 1.15 $ (after negotiation).

With Marlyn and Andre through Cebu and a severe security threat

Andre drove us securely through all of Cebu with Marlyn as Guide

Always a sure bet with kids, balloons
20130312_103240_Ballone
These balloons however were the source of trouble, see later (patience)

I am not even trying to explain what we saw, because the beauty of this trip trough Cebu where the many big and smaller things one normally does not see. Of course, the must see “Magellan cross” was also part of it. The explanations how the city works, who owns what and how everything is connected where marvelous.

At lunch we had a wide variety of local dishes and we liked every one of them.

Thanks a lot.

[only regret: we some managed not to make pictures of Jadine and Joe]

Ah yes. The security threat.
Our Hotel is 4th floor and above. We have to go trough a Mall to enter our Hotel. Like in all malls here there is security at the entrance, with gun and visible ammunition. (Tried to make a picture but “it’s forbidden”).
He would not let the kids pass through with their balloons! So I made them both cry and he let us pass. Ok, that is a lie. We just had to explain that we go to the Hotel, that was enough.

Arrive Cebu, Philippines

I might finally learn how to spell Philippines now.
LCC Tiger Airways was quite fine. Plane less then 5 years old. I learned any plane with sharklets is < 5 a.
Andre gave us a lift together with his daughter Jadine.
We arrived well and were not overwhelmed again by the noise and crowd. Already getting used to it.

Greeting from Cebu

Sleeping Beauty

What to do with the kiddies in Singapore?
Haven’t been in a zoo for a while.
Singapore Zoo really is a great. Because they are in the tropics they also can have lots of animals at low cost that zoos elsewhere can only keep indoors.
Many of these animals I never saw before.
The great panda was somewhat strange. It cost extra and an appointment was needed.
The cashier said: you might only see 1 of them today (might=for sure).
Right at the entrance the guides said: she might be in her bin, but don’t worry you can see here on a monitor then. I was sure this also means, no way we goona see the real thing. But there she was. Barely moving. We thought she might not be for real, but they wouldn’t go that far I suppose (just kidding, I am sure she lived).
DSC_9761_Zoo_Grosser_Panda

Where heard Singapore is really clean. Not a spot. Great exaggeration. While Bali really had very dirty spot, Singapore is much cleaner, but still a lot of rubbish lays on the streets.

Next day we went to Marina Bay Sands. You must look here to see what it is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marina_Bay_Sands
DSC_9875_Marina_Bay_Sands
The Garden and pool is just for guests.

Used the MRT (Metro) to get there. Works well but is very expensive. The kids had both to pay full are!
Here is why:
DSC_9859_Free_blow_90_in_MRT
90 cm go free, higher=full fare, Unfair. Asian kids are much smaller at that age.

Then Orchard Road. Some say Singapore is the only mall with a seat in the UN.

Singapore

Checked into a Hostel.
Have an entire 6 person bunkbed no frills (like bathroom, window, chair) room for us. But it is clean, has a patio and recreation room with 100 DVDs. Free good internet. And walking distance to butter chicken.

Strange indeed: we pay 100 CHF night. The cheapest booking.com “real” Hotel is CHF 250. Nothing in between. The Hotels Internet would have been 40 $. In such cases you know they are crooks.

No good pic yet. But read the sign. Grandparents: find the kids. Easy this time.

Golfclubs vs. Kids Scissors / Goodbuy Bali

(PS:in Singapore now)
Just saw in TV: The US now allows Golfclubs as Cabin Baggage. I guess some politicans got annoided they couldn’t make their weekend golf excursion without checked luggage. We just got rid of our toy scissors here at the airport. Good priorities.

We made a mistake with the ordering of a taxi to the airport. So we were already somewhat confused at that time and missed the mandatory final hotel room check for the first time. 15 minutes to the airport we noticed the big camera is missing and returned. Seldom was so nervous. Made it. Phuuuu. Uom.

Currently filling imigration forms, 4 of them. By now I know the bithdates, passport number and expiry date of all family members. On the flight to Singapore. We’ll stay for 4 days and then fly to Cebu, Philippines.
I need onward travel prove (stupid as can be), so I booked the cheapest flight to anywhere possible. This happens to be Clerk (on Luzon N of Manila) to Taipei. 180 CHF for all of us. So we might end up in Taiwan or may expand our stay in the Philippines and fly to Kuala Lumpur.

Bali:
We travelled from Lovina to Ubud, 1 Night and then back to Benoa same Hotel for a rest day (I actally worked the entire day, hotel, mails, flights, maintenance, pics)
Saw many nice places.
Best of.

And the moon of Bali/Pejeng
(Wiki : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_of_Pejeng. Here should be the link but forgot to synchronize ticker).
Nobody understood, when I wanted to see the “bronze drum”. They belive it to be the moon that fell from the sky (actally the weel of the chariot with the moon on it).
The biggest bronze age relict in SE Asia. No Tourists there. The thing really is worshipped. We could barely see it. For pics go to wikipedia.

There on top the black thingy.

Erleuchtung

Search Picture III / Bali inland

Ubud, Kings palace.
The Kids wanted to make another search picture.
My 3 females are all hidden. The first to find all three of them will get a balinese gift. Ada is almost impossible to find. (make as big as possible)
image
(Solution at the end of this post [added 2013-03-07] as it really is almost impossible)

The tour from Ubud to Lovina was very neat.
image

We also got to see a place where they show how a special coffee is produced as follows:
An cat-like animal is fed with ripe coffee beans. The kids could also feed it. Their shit is collected, the beans extracted, dried and rosted. Sells 40$/100g.
Had a try. Tasted like a brew we once had at the Mutschellen Hasenstrick Japanese Restaurant: we then first thought the machine is broken and uses the filter twice. Weak (or you may say mild).
Further on good lunch with a view at Gunang Batur Vulcano:

Now in Lovina. Heavy rain. Touristy, but not so crowded.

SPOILER.
SOLUTION FOR SEARCH PIC

Still difficult. Click on Image for full size!
Ada is on the very left side left of the tree. Just the face barely visible. Lena on the far right left of a pillar.
Astrid left of Lena behind the blue hat. That was not intentional though.
